The initial setup of Lenovo XClarity Administrator involves preparing the network, installing Lenovo XClarity Administrator virtual appliance, configuring Lenovo XClarity Administrator, managing chassis and servers, and optionally setting up automatic support notification.
Before you begin
Before installing and setting up Lenovo XClarity Administrator, review the "Read before downloading XClarity Administrator Full Image" link on the XClarity Administrator download webpage.
Ensure that you have reviewed the prerequisites for the Lenovo XClarity Administrator virtual appliance (see Supported host systems).
Ensure that the devices that you intend to manage using Lenovo XClarity Administrator are supported (see Supported devices).
Ensure that firmware for all devices that you intend to manage using Lenovo XClarity Administrator are at the require levels (see Supported firmware).
You can download the Lenovo XClarity Administrator virtual-appliance image from the XClarity Administrator download webpage to a client workstation.
If you plan to manage a large number of devices, review the XClarity Administrator Performance Guide (White paper).
If you intend to manage chassis that are currently managed by IBM Flex System Manager, review information about migrating those devices to Lenovo XClarity Administrator (see Migrating from Flex System Manager).
For information about updating a Lenovo XClarity Administrator virtual appliance that is already installed, see Updating the XClarity Administrator management server. Ensure that you carefully read the Installation and Setup Instructions in the Invgy_sw_lxca_***_anyos_noarch.txt file that is provided in the update package .zip file.
You can use all available features in Lenovo XClarity Administrator for free for up to 90 days. To continue using the operating-system deployment, firmware maintenance, and configuration management features in Lenovo XClarity Administrator, you must purchase and download a full-function-enablement license (see Free 90-day trial).
You can determine how many days
are left in the trial license by clicking the user action menu (
) on the Lenovo XClarity Administrator title bar, and then clicking About. After 90 days, you can continue
to use Lenovo XClarity Administrator to manage and monitor your hardware for free; however,
you must purchase a full-function-enablement license to continue using Lenovo XClarity Administrator to configure your hardware using Configuration Patterns and to deploy operating systems. Lenovo XClarity Pro provides
entitlement to service and support and the full-function-enablement
license. For more information about purchasing Lenovo XClarity Pro,
