Synchronous mirroring – data unsynchronized

The secondary volume in the mirrored pair is no longer synchronized with the primary volume. This problem occurs when data written to the primary volume is unable to be mirrored to the secondary volume due to a communication problem with the remote storage array, or a failed synchronous mirroring reserved capacity volume.

Important
  • The primary volume is still available for host I/O.

  • Data written to the mirrored pair's primary volume will be logged by the storage array and written to the secondary volume once synchronization is resumed.

Recovery Steps

  1. Are any other problems being reported in the Problems area?

    • If yes, correct the reported problems, and then go to step 2.

    • If no, go to step 2.

  2. Is the mirrored pair's resynchronization policy shown in the Details array manual or automatic?

    • If the resynchronization policy is manual, go to step 3.

    • If the resynchronization policy is automatic, go to step 5.

  3. Manually resume synchronization of the affected mirrored pair.

    1. Go to Storage > Synchronous Mirroring.

    2. Highlight the mirrored pair shown in the Details area in the table.

    3. Select Resume under More.

  4. Is the mirrored pair's status now Synchronizing?

    • If yes, go to step 10.

    • If no, go to step 5.

  5. Are the cables connecting the storage array to the fibre channel switch loose, disconnected, or visibly damaged?

    • If yes, correct the problem, and then go to step 10.

    • If no, go to step 6.

  6. Does the switch the storage array is connected to show any indications of a faulty port, SFP, or other failure?

    • If yes, correct the problem, and then go to step 10.

    • If no, go to step 7.

  7. Does the fabric the storage array is connected to contain multiple switches?

    • If yes, go to step 8.

    • If no, go to step 9.

  8. Are the cables connecting the fabric's switches loose, disconnected, or damaged?

    • If yes, correct the problem, and then go to step 10.

    • If no, go to step 9.

  9. Are the cables connecting the fibre channel switch to the remote storage array loose, disconnected, or visibly damaged?

    • If yes, correct the problem, and then go to step 10.

    • If no, contact your Technical Support Engineer.

  10. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
