Controller suspended - configuration mismatch

One of the controllers in the storage array is incompatible with the other controller.

Important: Contact your Technical Support Engineer if you do not have a replacement controller available.
Possible loss of data accessibility

If this problem is not corrected before the storage array reboots or is power cycled you will no longer be able to access the storage array using the System Manager.

The storage array does not have redundant controllers. The storage array will continue to operate with the remaining controller. However, failure of the remaining controller will result in a loss of access to the storage array.

Before proceeding, ensure that the “OK to remove” field in the Details area indicates Yes. If No is displayed, it indicates that there is another component that must be serviced first. Always select “Recheck” prior to and after servicing a component to ensure that there aren't any new problems that may affect the component you plan to service.

Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components

Always use proper anti-static protection when handling components. Touching components without using a grounding wrist strap may damage the equipment.

Recovery Steps

  1. Label each cable connected to the incompatible controller shown in the Details area.

  2. Remove the controller.

  3. Does the new controller's replacement part number match the replacement part number shown in the Details area?

    • If yes, go to step 4.

    • If no, contact your Technical Support Engineer to obtain a controller that matches the replacement part number in the Details area. Do not go to step 4 until you have received the correct controller.

  4. Did you use a DHCP server to originally assign an IP address for the removed controller's management ports?

    • If yes, update the DHCP server to associate the removed controller's DNS/network and IP address with the MAC address on the label on the back of the replacement controller, and then go to step 5.

    • If no, go to step 5.

  5. Remove the battery and, if applicable, the host interface card (HIC) from the removed controller and place it into the new controller. Refer to your hardware documentation for the battery and HIC replacement procedure.

  6. Wait one minute, and then insert the new controller firmly into place and reconnect the cables.

  7. Wait until the controller appears in the Hardware view, and then check that the controller is Optimal.

    1. Go to Hardware.

    2. Highlight the affected controller shown in the Details area. The controller is located on the backside of the controller shelf.

    3. Select View Settings. The controller's status is located in the Controller section.

    Is the controller Optimal?

    • If yes, go to step 8.

    • If no, highlight the controller and select Place online. Then, go to step 8.

  8. Redistribute all volumes back to their preferred owner.

    1. Go to Storage > Volumes.

    2. Select Redistribute volumes under More.

  9. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
