Mirror group synchronization - threshold exceeded

The synchronization process of an asynchronous mirror group has exceeded the warning threshold. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Important:
  • The synchronization warning threshold is a notification that is triggered when the synchronization of all of the volumes within the asynchronous mirror group takes longer than the defined time set by the warning threshold. This parameter is set on each mirror group.

  • If this problem is occurring frequently, it is recommended to execute a communication test to determine if the network performance between this (local) storage array and the remote storage array is degraded. The synchronization warning threshold should also be evaluated to determine if the setting is appropriate for the mirroring configuration. If the threshold is too low, the storage arrays will not be able to handle the amount of data that must be synchronized within the time specified by the warning threshold.

  • This is a 'notification' condition such that there are no specific recovery steps to fix the problem. The recovery steps below are provided suggestions for how to diagnose problems that may be triggering this condition. The Clear button will remove this occurrence of the notification from the Recovery Guru.

Recovery Steps

  1. To diagnose potential problems with the mirroring configuration, it is recommended to do the following:

Execute a communication test to evaluate network performance between this storage array and the remote storage array To execute a communication test, perform the following steps:
    1. On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, highlight the affected asynchronous mirror group.

    2. Select the Copy Services > Mirroring > Asynchronous Mirroring > Mirror Group > Test Connectivity menu option.

    3. Each communication test (Connectivity, Bandwidth, Latency) can be performed one at a time, or consecutively if multiple tests are selected. It may be necessary to run the tests in different combinations to diagnose the problem.

    4. Go to step 2.

Ensure that the synchronization warning threshold is set at a reasonable value for the mirroring configuration To evaluate and make changes to the threshold setting, perform the following steps:
    1. On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, highlight the affected asynchronous mirror group.

    2. Select the Copy Services > Mirroring > Asynchronous Mirroring > Mirror Group > Change > Synchronization Settings menu option.

    3. Evaluate the synchronization warning threshold and make changes if necessary.

    4. Go to step 2.

  2. Click the Clear button to clear this notification.

  3. Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, reevaluate the network settings and synchronization warning threshold for the asynchronous mirror group.
