Tray ID conflict

Two or more trays are using the same tray identification number. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Important:
  • Each tray associated with a storage array must have a unique identification number.

  • The tray identification number is set depending on the type of tray you have.

    • If you have a tray that contains only drives, you either set the tray ID using a switch located on each ESM canister (the switches on both ESM canisters must be set to the same value) or a single switch located on the back of the tray.

    • If you have a tray that contains both controllers and drives but there is not a tray ID switch located on the back of the tray, then the tray's ID is permanently set to 0. Any additional trays associated with this storage array cannot use 0 as a tray identification number.

    • If you have a tray that contains both controllers and drives and there is a tray ID switch, then you set the ID using the single switch located on the back of the tray.

  • For more detailed information on setting tray identification numbers, consult your hardware documentation.

  • One of the trays with the conflicting tray ID will be moved to the bottom of the Hardware tab in the Array Management Window. You will need to re-order the trays on the Hardware tab after completing this recovery procedure to match your physical hardware set-up by selecting the Hardware > Tray > Change > Hardware View Order option.

Recovery Steps

  1. Use the conflicting tray ID number listed in the Recovery Guru Details area to locate the trays with the same identification number.

  2. Change the tray identification numbers so all trays associated with the storage array have a unique number.

Note: If a drive tray has a tray ID switch located on each ESM canister, you must set the tray identification number on both ESM canisters to the same value.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, then click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your Technical Support Representative.

Note: Re-order the trays to match your physical hardware set-up by selecting the Hardware > Tray > Change > Hardware View Order option.
