Software enhancements

This version supports the following enhancements to the management software.
Function Description
Planning and installation Microsoft Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) v1709 and v1803 have reached end of life by Microsoft and therefore are no longer supported by XClarity Administrator (see Supported host systems).

You can find information about the current version and installed patches for the XClarity Administrator instance from the About page (see Updating the XClarity Administrator management server).

You can install the latest enablement license without restarting the management server (see Installing the full-function enablement license).

Administration You can configure up to four NTP servers in XClarity Administrator (see Setting the date and time).

You can choose to sort tables (grids)) in the user interface using the value that is selected for the device name (see Setting inventory preferences).

The jobs log can use up to 1GB of space before the oldest jobs are deleted (see Monitoring jobs).

Device and inventory management For ThinkServer and System x M4 servers, you can specify manually-entered credentials or stored credentials for authentication (see Managing servers).

You can manage RackSwitch devices running CNOS using loopback interfaces (see Managing switches).

Rack view support 45U racks (see Managing racks).

You can view rack or chassis that is associated with the server by clicking rack or chassis name from the server's Summary page (see Viewing the details of a managed server).

Jobs, events, and alerts Audit logs are no longer removed for a device when the device is umanaged.

You can place a device in maintenance mode, so that all events and alerts for that device are excluded from all pages on which alerts are displayed (see Placing devices in maintenance mode).

Device configuration You can configure Intel® Optane™ DC Persistent Memory DIMMs using Configuration Patterns (see Defining local storage).

You can configure security settings for Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory DIMMs (see Configuring memory).

You can use templates to quickly provision multiple switches from a single set of defined configuration settings (see Configuring switches using configuration templates).

When you change a server pattern, you can choose to redeploy the changed pattern to a subset of servers to which original pattern was deployed (see Modifying a server pattern).

Firmware updates You can view the total number of devices with updates that are pending activation from the dashboard (see Viewing a summary of your provisioning status).

You can show or hide devices that are not being monitored, devices with firmware pending activation, and devices with firmware-compliance errors from the Apply and Activate page (see Applying and activating firmware updates with compliance policies).

You can export UpdateXpress System Packs (UXSPs) to the local system (see Exporting and importing firmware updates).

OS device-driver updates Microsoft Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) v1709 and v1803 have reached end of life by Microsoft and therefore are no longer supported by XClarity Administrator (see OS device-driver update considerations).
Operating system deployment You can deploy the following operating systems to managed servers (see Supported operating systems).
  • Red Hat® Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Server 7.6

  • SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 12 SP4

  • Base VMware vSphere® Hypervisor (ESXi) without Lenovo customization

  • Windows Hyper-V Server 2016

Microsoft Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) v1709 and v1803 have reached end of life by Microsoft and therefore are no longer supported by XClarity Administrator (see Supported operating systems).

Network and storage settings that are specified for each server persist in the management server so that they can be used by all users (see Configuring network settings for managed servers and Choosing the storage location for managed servers).

You can filter the list of OS images to show only images with a specific status (see Deploying an operating-system image).

Security You can create custom roles that enforce a unique set of privileges that users can perform (see Creating a custom role).
Service and support You can add a resolution and comments to any completed job, regardless of the error state (see Adding a resolution and comments to a job).

You can configure when you want to be warned about the warranty expiration for a managed device (see Viewing warranty information).

When reporting a problem with XClarity Administrator, you can attach additional files to aid Lenovo Support in troubleshooting the problem (see Reporting XClarity Administrator problems).

In addition to service-data archives, you can attach other types of files to service tickets to assist in troubleshooting problems (see Attaching a service file to an open service ticket).
